• Nov 27, 2019 · Most mini-ITX motherboards generally have 2 to 3 fan headers available. You would automatically populate one for the CPU heatsink and another for the pump if you use an AIO liquid cooler. This leaves you with one free fan header for the rest of the case fans. Having more case fans would either require you to use an adapter or a fan splitter cable.
  • In my new build I wanted 6 fans and my Motherboard only had 4 fan headers. So I had to get this to power my extra fans. This itself will handle up to six fans but I only needed it for the extra 2 I didn’t have fan headers for. It’s expensive for what it is but Corsair stuff isn’t cheap. It works well and isn’t that complicated to install.
  • Nov 11, 2020 · One thing to verify is that the fan splitter cable has pin-3 on one of the "fan" connectors disconnected. Pin-3 is the tachometer signal wire that gives fan rpm info to the motherboard. If two fans both have pin-3 connected, there will be two source tachometer signals resulting in incorrect fan speed readings.

  • Starting with the CPU Cooler installed into our PC, we’ll now attach the cables required to control the RGB. Quickly removing the Graphics Card to give us easy access to the two ports on the bottom of of the CPU Cooler we first connect the RGB Cable to an RGB Header, and then the other cable to the USB 2.0 Header on our motherboard.
  • Fan control is not always an automatic process. A computer's BIOS (basic input/output system) can control the speed of the built-in fan system for the computer. A user can even supplement this function with additional cooling components or connect a manual fan controller with knobs that set fans to different speeds.
  • Unfortunately, the description of Pin 2 is not always a clear indication as some manufacturers use terms such as “Fan PWR” or “Power” for both types of fan headers. However, if Pin 2 is described as “Speed Control”, you can also be sure that the fan header does not support PWM based speed control.

Aug 28, 2016 · I tested 2 different fans off the CPU_Fan header. Neither spun up. I know exactly where the CPU Fan header is and it is not functional. I've tried reseating the 4pin over and over and nothing. So the CPU fan header is most likely broken. The question is, is there a way to fix it?
If the fan should work as expected, what settings I need to change. I already read many forum threads here. One last comment, in the past the Autodetect headers were more commonly the CPU_FAN1 and CHA_FAN1 (in some mobos CPU_FAN2), recently they steered away from this practice and now...
